Brice Bergesen Delivers Win in Memory of Andy Gaiser The Texas Putting Tour held its last regular event prior to State Weekend at Putt-Putt in Webster, Texas. The first round saw only two players’ able break 30. Joel Baker held a two stroke lead at 9 under 17 over Steve Tanton. A second round 9 under 27 from Brice Bergesen and Jeffrey Smith moved them into the lead with Brice one stroke ahead of Jeffrey. In a similar scenario as the day before the tournament came down to the last few holes, it was between Jeffrey and Brice. With Brice holding a slim margin Jeffrey needed to charge over the last four holes, instead he copied what Brice had done the day before and bogeyed two of the four holes to give Brice an easy five stroke win at 25 under 83. He said afterwards that he was thinking of longtime Texas player Andy Gaiser, who passed away earlier in the week after a battle with cancer. The win was Brice’s fourth on the year. State spots went to Byron Kirby, James Taylor and Steve Armstrong. In the amateur division Steve Willmann would blow open the tournament in the last round. After the first two rounds Steve held a two stroke lead over Jason Sheffield and three over Adam Sahmel. When Steve was the only player in the amateur field to break 30 in the last round, the win was his. His three round total of 21 under 87 was good enough for a seven stroke win. Adam Sahmel took second. State spots went to Doug Austin and Allan Sahmel.
